AMC Cinema continues its Monday Classics programme on 3 March with the 1961 film adaption of musical West Side Story. Romeo and Juliet meets 1950s urban New York, the film is the tale of two young lovers who find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and interspersed with dancing, pastel suits and classic musical numbers, it stars the late Natalie Wood (Maria) and Richard Beymer (Tony) as its star-crossed lovers (pictured). West Side Story was the winner of 10 Academy Awards – making it the most honoured musical film ever made.
