Faithless frontman Maxi Jazz’s new funk and blues project is set to debut in Manchester at Band on the Wall next week. On a brief tour, the Londoner will be fronting the E-Type Boys band, whose personnel include handpicked purveyors of backing vocals, keys, guitars, bass, drums and percussion, evoking the sort of groove-laden jives familiar to fans of JJ Cale, James Brown and Parliament. Maxi Jazz’s new direction emerged during his hiatus from multi-million record selling trip-hoppers Faithless in 2013, and is said to be a return to his musical roots and is a chance to catch the lyricist, whose words have filled stadiums, in more intimate surrounds.
