Neneh Cherry first hooked the ears of the masses in 1989 when her track Buffalo Stance crept up the charts and became a huge hit (a song that also roused concerns when she performed it live on Top of the Pops heavily pregnant), not to mention melancholic worldwide smash, 7 Seconds with Youssou N’Dour from 1996’s Man. Cherry broke an 18-year quiet period with 2012’s The Cherry Thing and three intimate performances during that year’s Manchester International Festival. Her most recent offering, Blank Project, a collection of songs pounding with tribal rhythms and intimate lyrics, has involvement from the likes of Four Tet and RocketNumberNine – and has consequently prompted glowing reviews across the board.
