Slacking gets a bad rap: in a time when youth unemployment rides high and kids are expected to emerge from the womb with a checklist of A-Level options, the once-proud endeavour of doing fuck all has fallen sadly by the wayside. Nice then that a new club night has arrived to galvanise Manchester’s greasy, pock-marked masses. So pull on your dirtiest sneaks, filthiest tee and most bored expression and drag yourself from your pizza box prison to slip through the louche arches of Whitworth Street’s Gorilla. Wrangling the decks for the evening is Radio 1’s Phil Taggart, who’ll also be presenting a righteous lineup of his own personal faves: Jakwob, Mella Dee and Meat Free DJs will all be plying their wares for the benefit of your Generation-X indifference. If that’s not enough, Flexxin electroubadours Dutch Uncles (pictured) will also be rifling through their record collections to complete the night and ensure that while your jeans may be worn at the crotch, the grooves certainly won’t be. To mark this, the debut of Slacker, we’re giving away two pairs of tickets to our freakiest and geekiest readers. To win a pair, simply send the answer to the question below in an email to competitions at manchesterwire dot co dot uk with the subject line ‘Slacker competition’. Be sure to include your name, age, Twitter handle and phone number. The competition closes at midnight on Tuesday 1 October, and we’ll contact the winners the following day via email.
