Only time will tell just how big an impact this tournament will have on the long-term future of the women’s game, though one thing is already clear, Leah Williamson and co have more than done their bit when it comes to inspiring a whole new generation.
Looking for ways to get involved with the game? Whether you’re a complete beginner or have been playing for years, there are a growing number of women’s leagues and teams in and around Manchester to get involved with.
Greater Manchester Women’s Football League
With three divisions the Greater Manchester Women’s League offers those progressing from junior football a route to playing within an 11-a-side under 18s division.
Recreational women’s football
Manchester FA work in partnership with the University of Manchester to deliver the Kickaround Recreational Women’s league, providing 6-a-side football for women on Thursday evenings. You can enter the league as a team, or as an individual. Anyone entering as an invidual will be added into an existing team.
