Running from Tue 12 to Sat 16 Nov, Bristol Old Vic’s heart-warming and wildly creative production of Wonder Boy takes over Lowry with a ‘giddily enjoyable’ (Guardian) story about courage, self-discovery and the incredible power of communication.
Perfect for families with children aged 12 and above, the inspirational, tender and gleefully funny visual feast follows the imaginative young Sonny, a pre-pubescent schoolboy with a stammer who is navigating a world of vicious vowels and terrifying small talk, with only his imaginary superhero friend Captain Chatter for company.
Facing a future of self-imposed silence and linguistic loneliness, Sonny must find a way to make himself heard. When cast in the school production of Hamlet, he sees a chance to find his voice once and for all, and begins to realise that the ultimate hero is more real than he thought.
Directed by Sally Cookson, the 2023 Writers’ Guild Award-winning production guarantees a dazzling, hopeful and deeply stirring theatre experience for all, with breathtaking visuals, riotous humour and soaring original music at every turn.
