Xolo, a new Mexican-themed late-night bar in the Southern Quarter, is now open. It can be found in the basement of the Black Dog Ballroom, on New Wakefield Street, in the same row as Sound Control and Font. The 400-capacity venue was formerly the Underdog club, but has been completely transformed, with new décor inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebrations. The new style comes from the same people who designed the extremely funky Liars Lounge in new NQ hangout, Cane & Grain. Xolo’s drink specialities include tequila, frozen margaritas, and also home-grown cocktails such as the Zombita and the Tijuana Sangria. Special events are already lined up; this Friday is ‘Rediscover’, a second generation disco featuring Fingerman and 80s Child.

Now open, 11-13 New Wakefield Street, Manchester, M1 5NP, Mon – Sat: 8pm – 4am, blackdogballroom.co.uk
