Late last month a dark cloud descended upon the comedy community in Manchester as Jabez Clegg shut its doors for the final time and, by proxy, closed down stand-up staple XS Malarkey for the foreseeable future. Not ones to stay down for long, XS Malarkey is throwing a Christmas party with a whole host of fun including karaoke and retro video games. Also posing as a ‘staff do’ for Manchester’s comedians (they don’t technically have a fixed workplace), the night should prove to be a great laugh, in keeping with the XS Malarkey ethos. It won’t be long until XS are once again providing the best comedy night in town – but until then you can at least get drunk and sing ‘My Way’ appallingly while playing Mario Kart. And after all, isn’t that what Christmas is all about?
