Michelle Paver is a rare author who has managed to forge a successful career in young adult as well as adult fiction. The former lawyer has won the Guardian Award for children’s fiction (as well as a near £3 million advance) for her series, ‘Chronicles of Ancient Darkness’, before her 2010 ghost novel, ‘Dark Matter’, was nominated for a Shirley Jackson award for best novel. Now the bestselling author brings her latest adult gothic novel, Wakenhyrst, to Blackwell’s this April. Framed in the modern gothic style that takes in Bram Stoker, and Sarah Perry, the novel follows Maud, a lonely child, who’s father unlocks unhallowed forces, and she must battle. Spanning five centuries, it’s a gothic tale of obsession, murder and a longing to be free. Paver will be signing novels on the night, as well as money off, and a free glass of wine for all ticket holders.
