It’s the exclamation most made when they heard the city’s most prolific promoters Now Wave were to open their own venue so it makes a whole heap of sense to name said bar, restaurant and gig space ‘YES’. Jon Wickstead and Wesley Jones of Now Wave have joined with Ruth Hemmingfield (formerly of Deaf Institute, Gorilla, The Albert Hall and Band on the Wall) to bring not just the most exciting new venue for live music but also a great new bar and roof terrace. Set across four floors on Charles Street opposite where the BBC building used to reside, there will be a basement gig space, with the main bar and restaurant on top of that, followed by another concert room, topped by the much vaunted roof terrace (let’s hope some of this weather lasts til Sep!). Gigs already booked in include Gwenno, Azooga and Curtis Harding and they’ll be working with more promoters both local and international to bring in other shows too. One of the key promises is that you’ll also be able to buy a pint at YES for under £3 to maintain the DIY attitude Now Wave have always embued their shows with. We’ll certainly drink to that.
