From this April, Z-arts – the UK’s only dedicated arts centre for children and families – invites visitors down the Rabbit Hole with the official launch of their new immersive play experience, Adventures in Wonderland.
Co-created with with Macmillan Children’s Books in celebration of the 160th anniversary of the classic tale, the enchanting escapade takes families on a mesmerising voyage through Lewis Carroll’s bizarre and beloved fictional realm, with help from the White Rabbit as the storyteller.
From the shape-shifting Cheshire Cat to a game of croquet with flamingos and, of course, a chance to join the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Adventures in Wonderland brings an array of favourite characters and familiar scenes to life along the journey through twisting tunnels, mind-bending mazes, fairground mirrors and even a ball pool. There is also a variety of interactive games and sensory areas, as well as photo opportunities throughout the experience – with dress-up highly encouraged.
After the experience, families can head to Z-arts’ café, Butties and Books, to enjoy a selection of tea party-themed food and jam tarts. Elsewhere, visitors can pick up a Wonderland-inspired keepsake at ‘pocket-money prices’ in the gift shop, or check out an assortment of prints bearing the incredible original book illustrations in the exhibition space.
Saskia Metcalf, Head of Creative Development at Z-arts, says: “Adventures in Wonderland will take children from the pages of one of everyone’s favourite stories deep into their imaginations, with colourful encounters and discoveries that will spark their curiosity. Spending time in Wonderland will be a joyful experience for all the family, capturing the hearts of children and their grown-ups!”
