Ziferblat, a ‘new kind of social space’, has opened on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter. The self-proclaimed ‘treehouse for grown-ups’ offers those willing to pay 5p per minute the opportunity to work, study, relax and socialise among Ziferblat’s sofas, arm chairs and potted plants. This contribution from micro tenants enables the organisation to offer drinks and snacks, plus 100MB wi-fi, at no additional charge. There are 14 Ziferblats across Europe, with the concept initially developed in Moscow in 2011, and the first UK location opening in London last January. Ziferblat Manchester is situated on the first floor of 23 Edge Street, next door to Common.
