This September, Liam Francis Dance Company makes its Lowry debut with Alchemy, a richly textured and achingly poignant double-bill that interrogates identity, community and metamorphosis through two absorbing, symbiotic vignettes.

In the solo Lyre Liar, former Rambert dancer and Dance Europe ‘Dancer of the Year’ nominee Francis navigates his own shifting landscape of selfhood through a choreography interwoven with fragments from Merce Cunningham, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Kate Prince. Marked by raw candour and a disarming wit, Francis’ work charts the toll of transformation, the intricacies of fluid identities and the questions left in their wake with searing eloquence and tender vulnerability.

Then, the trio A Body of Rumours celebrates rhythm, kinship and resilience in a story of three young Black men who trace their escape from the pressure and isolation of competition to the unifying strength of trust, shared history and joy, with choreography inspired by ballet, hip hop and contemporary dance forms set to a live electronic score from composer Chloe Mason.
