The Writing’s On The Wall urban art photography at Terrace

Manchester has always had a strong street art scene, from those Sketch City kids to the invasion of space invaders of 2004. To showcase this, Ness Cohen – aka Photosbyness – has released a photo-book entitled ‘The Writing’s On The Wall’, a collection of her photography focusing on Manchester’s street art. Using alternative angles, fragmentation and close-ups, she highlights the relationship between the art form and the landscape upon which it is painted. Ness’ book serves as the basis for this upcoming eight-week exhibition in Terrace, a building that has preserved some of the street art it found on its own site when construction of the Northern Quarter favourite began. The 4 September launch night will see live painting from respected local artist Russ Meehan and music from Terrace resident DJs, plus a raffle with the chance to win signed prints and graff pieces on display – with all proceeds going to Manchester-based homeless charity The Mustard Tree.
