Music movie night Twisted Reel returns with 1993 documentary 1991: The Year Punk Broke. A seminal documentary about the bands that defined their generation in the early 1990s, it’s a great nostalgia trip for those that lived through it – and a chance to see great bands such as Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr, Babes In Toyland and Green Day just before they broke. The film primarily follows Sonic Youth on their European tour during the eponymous year, and shows candid footage of backstage shenanigans, live performances and Madonna piss-takes. DJ Rich Coyle will be playing the tunes that made the era great before and after the film – so go bathe in the hazy glow of the early 1990s.
