Mount Pleasant Gardens (pictured) in Kelsall, near Delamere, will open its gates to visitors this weekend to raise money for the National Open Garden Scheme. Founded in 1927, the scheme works to raise funds for charity through some of the most picturesque gardens in the country. This Sunday and Monday is Kelsall’s turn, as it welcomes visitors to its 10-acre landscaped garden and woodland, boasting views over the Cheshire countryside. Featuring specimen trees, a vegetable garden, wild flower meadow and Japanese garden, its specimen plants and ponds are the perfect excuse to escape from the city for the bank holiday. Alternatively, Mount Pleasant Gardens will host another open day in September, coinciding with its annual sculpture exhibition by British-based artists. Kelsall is around an hour and a half from Manchester – take the Chester-bound train from Piccadilly (£10.80 off-peak day return), then walk or get a lift from Delamere station.
