Most of Screenfields’ movies this summer are cheesy flicks from the 1980s and 1990s – but this week’s offering is rather different: Billy Wilder’s 1959 classic Some Like it Hot. The movie stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon as hapless musicians in the 1920s. In an attempt to evade gangsters, the duo pose as women so they can join an all-female band on tour. Marilyn Monroe stars are the band’s leader, and the object of Curtis’s affections. The movie is often voted one of the best comedies of all time. However, with its theme of cross-dressing as comedy, some might consider it a bit un-PC. As ever, the screening takes place outdoors on Spinningfields’ lawn – and the weather this week is predicted to be fine.
