Why not make a day of it this weekend with two reasons (and many more) to visit Leeds. Just an hour on the train away, visitors have the opportunity to watch Le Grand Depart – the start of the Yorkshire stage of Le Tour De France 2014. Tickets are still available to the opening ceremony which features the band Embrace and members of Girls Aloud, but they cost upwards of £50. A cheaper option is to take the train to Leeds – or cycle over – and watch the start of the race from one of the ‘spectator hubs’. Plenty of guidance is available on the website as well as a list of other viewing spots. This occasion happily coincides with the opening of a new curry and beer house, Bundobust, from two of our favourite food and drink merchants. The team behind Bradford’s fabulous beer house The Sparrow are supplying the beer, with the Prashad vegetarian curry house crew, famous for being one of Gordon Ramsay’s favourite restaurants and for their bestselling cookbook, sorting the food. Bundobust opens this Thursday, Le Tour starts on Saturday.

From Thu 3 Jul, Bundobust, 6 Mill Hill, Leeds, LS1 5DQ. From Sat 5 Jul, Le Tour De France, various times and locations, www.letour.yorkshire.com
