This Sunday (13 Jul) marks the return of the Trof Trophy, a five-a-side football tournament featuring teams of local musicians, promoters, writers and venues. Sixteen teams will go head to head for the trophy at the Ardwick Powerleague between 3pm and 6pm. Teams this year include bands Dutch Uncles (Duncan pictured in action last year), the Travelling Band, YBAs and last year’s winners, The Natural Curriculum (a joint team with Now Then magazine), plus club promoters Hoya Hoya, Murkage and The Warehouse Project, and venues Band on the Wall, The Deaf Institute, Soup Kitchen and The Warehouse Project, as well as a team of music journalists and several promoters including Now Wave, Hey! Manchester, Ping Pong Club and Comfortable On A Tightrope. Entry is free for spectators – so come down and cheer on your favourite band/venue/club night. Trof Trophy is raising money for the Manchester-based charity The Lifeline Project, with a target this year of £1000. The tournament will be followed by an afterparty at The Deaf Institute, which will feature guest DJs, a Dutch Uncles-organised quiz, trophy presentations and a screening of the World Cup final from 8pm.
