New restaurant: Aumbry chef Mary-Ellen McTague’s 4244 Edge Street in NQ

This September, Manchester’s fine dining scene is set for another shake-up. Mary-Ellen McTague (pictured), owner and head chef of Prestwich’s acclaimed Aumbry, is making a move to the city centre with her first pop-up restaurant. 4244 Edge St in the Northern Quarter will be a 50-cover establishment serving a five-course taster menu five evenings a week. Dishes will include locally-sourced British fayre, including slow-cooked Cumbrian beef, and also favourites from further afield, such as sautéed mushrooms and snails. Bespoke pairings of both wine and tea will also be offered. The restaurant will be a temporary replacement for Aumbry, which will be closed throughout autumn for refurbishments. Bookings for 4244 Edge St, which will take over the rear area of Teacup, will be accepted from Monday 1 September via the website below. As it will only be open for an initial five weeks, reservations are expected to be highly sought-after.
