Piccadilly Gardens has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, but a new art project coming in December might go some way to restoring its reputation. Enlighten Manchester is a four-day festival that will see the Gardens filled with light-based art installations. Hopefully some of them will be used to brighten up the much-loathed concrete wall. The festival is produced by Curated Place, an arts-led production company who’ve worked with, among others, Manc photographer extraordinaire, Andrew Brooks, and will feature works by local, national, and international artists. This is a pilot project which may lead to a larger event next year, to coincide with the UNESCO Year of Light. On the first evening, Manchester Art Gallery, one of the many organisations behind the project, will be open until 9pm for a launch night cocktail party.

Thu 11 Dec – Sun 14 Dec, Piccadilly Gardens, 4.30pm – 8.00 pm (Thu-Sat), 4.30pm – 6.30pm (Sun), FREE entry, www.curatedplace.com
