Scene: An Indian Street Kitchen
The street food craze is far from burning out – and the newly developed Leftbank is due to welcome Spinningfields’ first street food-themed Indian restaurant. With dishes inspired by the owner’s travels around India, Pakistan and southern Asia, visitors to Scene can expect concoctions they’ve almost definitely never heard of (Banjari Gosht, anyone?). So confident are they of the freshness and vibrancy of their ingredients that they invite punters to try Scene out with 50% off – register below.

Food festival at the Castlefield Bowl
Just as the sun has finally accepted its long-awaited invitation to come join us for hangs, a food festival has been announced at the Castlefield Bowl. Expect demonstrations and pop-up restaurants from our rainy city’s finest establishments, including Dukes 92, Dimitris and Veeno. Not only will punters be able to buy and sample edibles goods from around the globe and our doorstep via the world and farmers’ market, there will also be a full programme of entertainment (including a Quentin Tarantino-tribute band). Did we mention it’s free, too?
Fri 15 – Sun 17 May, 101 Liverpool Road, M3 4JN, www.castlefieldfoodfestival.co.uk
The Kitchens: A Collaborative Dining Experience
Intent on developing Spinningfields in to an even more desirable place to be, a competition was set out for promising hospitality start-ups to win a permanent space within the area. After battling it out with hundreds of other hopefuls, six finalists will be judged on factors such as brand, concept and turnover. Bangers & Bacon, Chaat Cart, Hip Hop Chip Shop, Mumma Schnitzel, Wholesome and Raw and Yakumama will set up shop in the newly developed Leftbank neighbourhood and you, the diner, will decide who wins.
From Thu 21 May, Irwell Square, Leftbank, M3 3AG, Mon – Fri 7am – 10.30pm, Sat & Sun 7am – 10pm, www.thekitchensleftbank.com
The Green Lampshade: A Celebration of Delia Derbyshire
She realised the original Doctor Who theme in 1963, inspired countless electronic artists and now, BBC Radiophonic Workshop’s Delia Derbyshire’s legacy continues to live on – namely for one night in Salford. The evening will comprise performances from Huw Bunford (Super Furry Animals) and the Delia Darlings, as well as a playful menu inspired by the themes and techniques that Delia used, from the kind-of-a-big-deal Mancunian chef Mary-Ellen McTague. Denis Jones will also debut a new piece inspired by the Delia Derbyshire archive to complete this immersive experience and celebrate the life and work of this iconic artist.
Sun 17 May, Blueprint Studios, Salford, M3 7DQ, 4pm – 10pm, £50, www.eventbrite.co.uk
