Design Manchester is a week-long festival celebrating creativity, collaboration and inclusivity in art, design, film and music. The programme takes in a number of Manchester venues like the former Cornerhouse building, which is now called 70 Oxford Street, and award-winning Kosmonaut bar. Highlights include talks by Stephen Morris (New Order), French graphic artist, Malika Favre and a new Film How event, aimed at giving you the inside story on working in design in the film industry. This live session directs its lens towards the finely tuned design elements that contribute to cinematic authenticity. The event sees talks by some of the team behind the recent 1970s-set music drama, Northern Soul, who’ll reveal the processes that led to clothing and styling the cast, which includes Steve Coogan, John Thomson and Ricky Tomlinson. Also on the bill is the managing director at Factory animations in Altrincham, Phil Chalk, who can count Newzoids and Clangers among his company’s 2015 productions. If you’ve yet to watch the film, Northern Soul, there’s a special screening in the afternoon prior to the session.

Mon 19 Oct, 70 Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 5NH, 6.30pm, £10 (student discount £7.50), www.eventbrite.co.uk  Northern Soul film screening, 3pm, £7.50, www.eventbrite.co.uk
