Barking Tales | Wed 7 Oct | Joshua Brooks | 7.30pm | £5
Serving as both an open dialogue on mental health issues in the comedy industry as well as a damn funny night of left-field stand-up, Harriet Dyer’s Barking Tales has raised over £100 for Manchester Mind charity from the success of the night. This month they aim to raise more money and spirits with a headline spot from Australia’s Ro Campbell, the rap-embattled Rob Mulholland and the twisted musings of Rachel Fairburn. Dyer an excellent host as per usual.

Daniel Sloss (pictured) | Wed 7 Oct | The Lowry | 8pm | £11 – £13.50
After successful stints at the last couple of Edinburgh Fringe festivals and a performance on US TV’s Conan, Scotland’s Daniel Sloss is the bright future of British comedy. Only 25 years of age, but looking much younger, he has a tight grip on the first world woes of the millennial and picks apart every ridiculous aspect of growing up in the 21st Century with expletive strewn glee.

Smug Roberts | Wed 7 Oct | Fred’s Ale House | 7pm | £5
Wednesday is proving a popular night for comedy, be it the last two picks or Richard Herring appearing at the Frog & Bucket (see preview here) – but if you don’t fancy heading into the city centre on a school night you (and live in or near Levenshulme) then head to Fred’s Ale House for a top night of reasonably priced comedy. Manchester legend Smug Roberts headlines, while up and comers Jenny Collier, Josh Pugh and compere Freddy Quinne make up the rest of the bill.

Sketch in the City | Thu 8 Oct | Three Minute Theatre | 7pm | FREE
A sort of gong show for sketch writers, Sketch in the City offers writers the chance to see their work performed in front of a live audience. A real litmus test, the resulting sketches have been submitted by some of Manchester’s brightest new writers and the audience vote at the end for their favourite skit embodied by the Urmston Unusuals. A free night, where donations are welcome, there are over 20 sketches on show so more than worth your time.
