Screening: A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night at Chorlton Film Institute

Chorlton Film Institute hosts a screening of Iranian vampire movie, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night at St Clements Church this Thursday (17 Dec). This wonderful, indie, offbeat film is big screen directorial debut of Ana Lily Amirpour, a British-Iranian woman who grew up in the USA. It’s deep, amusing, haunting and lighthearted in equal measure, bringing to mind such modern standards as Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive. A highlight is music by the Iranian band, Kiosk yet this gentle exploration of life in a dust-filled town, where people-less factories take the place of saloon bars, has many visual highlights too. More screenings at the Chorlton Film Institute include serial killer tale, London Road (Thu 21 Jan) and one of the strangest films of recent times, The Duke of Burgundy (Thu 18 Feb), which explores lesbian sexual submission in a Portmerion-esque town inhabited by female moth experts. Plenty to please film fans in 2016 and beyond.
