New Dawn Fades: Joy Division play at The Dancehouse

Coming to the Dancehouse for three nights in April is New Dawn Fades, an acclaimed play about Joy Division. The play charts the rise the band and its fall due to the tragic suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The work draws inspiration from Curtis’s enigmatic lyrics, and it features live performances of some of Joy Division’s best known songs. Looking at the band in the context of Manchester through the ages, Tony Wilson (played by Lee Joseph) guides the audience through the city’s history, via interviews with figures such as a Roman general and the Elizabethan alchemist Dr John Dee. Since debuting at the Greater Manchester Fringe in 2013, New Dawn Fades has been performed at venues throughout the North. It comes our way this year as part of a major nationwide tour, and as this is the theatrical equivalent of a home game, you can bet the shows will sell out fast.
