As the days are lengthening into the summer months, so does The Blue Pig’s list of entertainment. The Northern Quarter bar’s weekends start from 8pm on Thursday each week with the fantastically themed ‘Oink! Punk Bingo’ combining tombola with twists of music and performance. There’ll even be chance to dust off your air guitar. On Fridays ‘Pig Is A DJ’ is a new night where your favourite tune requests create the playlist – and then Saturday night control of the decks is passed to PB&J’s capable crates of musical goodies across hip hop, soul, funk and R&B. All the while, their Piggy Happy Hour stirs into action with £3 Becks Vier and £10 bottles of wine among the discounted booze between 5-7pm from Monday to Thursday, then extended to 9pm on Fridays. During Happy Hour selected cocktails are £5 – and you’ll want to get stuck into the new Spring/Summer cocktail list. We particularly like the look of the Ale Float, which is basically a massive, beery Mr Whippy (with a flake on top) and the Manc Hattan, a cheeky take on the classic, made with Thomas Dakin Manchester Gin and orange bitters. One of these tipples is the perfect accompaniment to new summery small plates which are on offer at three for £13, and include St Louis ribs with a Buffalo Trace bourbon glaze, chorizo and hake bon bons and masala fishfingers.
