Manchester Jazz Festival’s Jazz on Film at HOME ft. Miles Davis & Spike Lee

As part of the Manchester Jazz Festival, HOME MCR are screening eight specially selected films that cover a wide range of the diversity at hand in jazz. Whether these films cover Miles Davis’s music in Lift to the Scaffold’s score, the pioneering Charlie Parker in Clint Eastwood’s Bird, a 35mm screening of Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues or the Oscar -nominated ‘Round Midnight, all reflect the multiplicity nature of jazz. Additionally, The Connection, Tubby Haynes: A Man in a Hurry & Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser further help to support the scope found in the genre. Giving further insight into both the music and film on offer will be a number of experts and members of the Manchester Jazz Community, specific to each film screening. Miles Davis himself referred to jazz as ‘social music’- engaging with all levels and classes of society. Like the flowing notes of his music help to suture the listener into human emotion, so, perhaps, do to the films on offer.
