Frozen Screening at Manchester Museum
The Manchester Museum continues its season of Climate Flicks, a programme of films that illustrate or shed light on climate and environmental issues. For this instalment, they’re screening recent family favourite Frozen: The classic fairytale The Snow Queen updated with heart and show-stopping musical numbers. This particular screening is introduced by Dr. Jonathan Fairman, from the University’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, who’ll be talking about how snowflakes form, and how Disney simulated them for the film.

Hope Not Hate at Platt Fields
Dedicated to the memory of murdered Labour MP Jo Cox, this concert organised by Hope Not Hate takes place in South Manchester’s Platt Fields and aims to challenge the bitter nationalist politics that led to her death. Topping a diverse bill of musicians and speakers is socialist folk juggernaut Billy Bragg (pictured). Also featured is local singer-songwriter Joe, and it’s all held together by organiser and local punk poet MC Jeffarama.

Free Party at Koh Tao
Club promoters Panda Riot are throwing this free party at Fallowfield basement-bar Koh Tao on Saturday. They’re famed for getting in some of the best local and international DJs, and ins spite of the non-existent door charge, they’re still bringing out the big guns. Australian DJ Hertz tops the bill, following his former collaborator Kong and three other jockeys four-and-a-half hours of back-to-back jungle, dub and drum ‘n’ bass. Get in early though, that door charge goes up to a scandalous £2 after 11pm.

Festejar at Albert Square
Annual Spanish festival Festejar continues into the weekend, coming to a close on Sunday. But there’s plenty of free treats to get stuck into over the weekend. On Saturday, you could take in one of their Spanish cooking masterclasses on the afternoon, or maybe a tango lesson by the main stage. On Sunday, they wrap up with a performance from The Latin Vibe, a band fronted by Peruvian singer-songwriter Tocha. For more information, take a look at our full preview.
