Death Grips are noisy and uncompromising; this much they share with the legacies of grunge and punk. Sonically they are unnerving, unwaveringly committed to their brattishness. MC Ride, lead singer/rapper and front-man, throws tantrums on stage, hiding complex verses behind a smokescreen of anger, rippling muscle and breathlessness. Drummer Zach Hill, whose frenetic energy can be heard on Marnie Stern’s records, has found the only musical outfit that can keep up with him, intricately duplicating the fabricated electronic beats on his tattered live kit, but it’s the virus-infested synths that pioneer their broken sound. Check the terrifying Guillotine, join their rabid following and say you were there at the start.
