Sideways Saloon Records Takeover at The Whiskey Jar
This Tuesday, locally-based Sideways Saloon Records is taking over the open mic night at The Whiskey Jar on Tariff Street. As well as the open mic acts, you can enjoy exclusive musical performances from The Travelling Band, as well as solo singers Jo Rose and Elle Mary. Sideways Saloon are also going to be selling copies of their new compilation Pinhole Sounds, which features many of the artists on the label’s illustrious roster.

Rylands Poetry Reading at John Rylands Library
It’s the 14th Annual Rylands Poetry Reading this week, and this year the reading will be taken by New Zealand’s first poet laureate Bill Manhire. Following a drinks reception, Bill will be reading from a career catalogue that spans decades and three published volumes. Liverpool’s LEAF was already somewhat of an institution before launching their Manchester branch earlier this year, famed for their excellent breakfasts and wide range of teas. This Thursday evening you can sample some of these teas at a free tea-tasting event, where you can learn more about the huge range of flavours and types available whilst wetting your whistle. Baroque Orchestra at Martin Harris Centre
If you’re looking to catch some music this Friday, you can’t go far wrong with this midday concert at Manchester University’s Martin Harris Centre. It’s presented by the University’s Baroque Orchestra, who’ll be playing a range of instrumental pieces from some of the best-known Italian composers of the time period, showcasing their orchestral talents as well as the individual talents of some of their soloists.
