Manchester food and drink news this week includes a host of new bar openings from the likes of The Liar’s Club, Wine and Wallop and Panacea, a whiskey tasting at Briton’s Protection, Track Brewery’s brewtap weekend, a chilli festival and a pair of pop up supper clubs in Levenshulme.

New Sherry Bar Flok to hit the Northern Quarter
The good folk behind Wine and Wallop and, erm, Folk are taking over the space currently operating as framers and gift shop Incognito for a new sherry based bar called ‘Flok’. An anagrammers dream they are hoping to launch the fortified wine shop in May this year.

NQ stalwart The Bay Horse to be relaunched by Liars group
The people behind The Liars Club, Cane and Grain and Crazy Pedro’s have taken over the Bay Horse Tavern on Thomas Street. With plans to open in early Summer, they’re launching a new food menu whilst retaining the real ale and craft beer bar. Opening date to be confirmed.

New Japanese restaurant Fable to open in former Freemason’s Hall on Bridge Street
The owner of Manchester venue Panacea, Joe Akka, is set to open pan-Asian restaurant Fable, serving predominantly Japanese cuisine. The Freemason’s Hall is set to house this new venue along with others to become foodie destination Manchester Hall. With a date yet to be revealed, Fable’s doors are set to open in Spring. London’s The Ivy confirms Spinningfields opening in late 2017
The Ivy Collection has been able to confirm they are opening a Manchester branch of the London restaurant. Called The Pavilion, it will have many of the trademark flourishes of The Ivy, but the dining style of the menu and space has yet to be revealed. It is to open this year, we’ll bring you more information in the lead up.

Irish Whiskey tasting at The Briton’s Protection
With St. Patrick’s Day on the horizon, The Britons Protection are hosting an Irish Whiskey tasting evening, in collaboration with The Dubliner and The Dublin Liberties. Tickets are £10 and available at the bar, pop in or phone for more details.

Brewtap party this weekend at Track Brewery
Manchester brewery Track Brewing is opening up their beery HQ to welcome in the weekend. With six keg and two cask beers on offer, they are also launching two newbie brews. Open this Friday and Saturday, the Otto-Men will also be on hand with delicious mezze to accompany the beer. Music is provided in the form of DJs Stop Making Sense and Dr Sid’s rock and roll on Saturday. Read our preview.

Chilli Festival at Dewsbury Railway Station’s West Riding Refreshment Rooms

Bangladeshi supper club by Heart & Parcel at Levenshulme Inspire (pictured)
Levenshulme-based Heart & Parcel is holding a Bangladeshi supper club. Their previous edition was based on Polish dumplings and March’s outing sees the turn of the Bangladeshi chefs in the group. The five-course set menu caters for carnivores and veggies alike, and will involve plenty of traditional Bangladeshi dishes. The ticket price covers the food and will also be put towards supporting women from migrant communities in their community projects.

Vegan and gluten free supper club from Stretford Canteen at Trove in Levy
Stretford Canteen are taking over the kitchens at Levenshulme bakery and restaurant, TROVE. For one night only, they will be joining forces, offering a fully gluten free meat or vegan four-course menu. The bar will also be open and offering vegan wines, beers and cocktails. It’s an intimate space, booking is advisable.
