Review: Junkyard Golf at One Piccadilly Place

Whenever it was that you last played mini-golf, we can guarantee it wasn’t quite like the Junkyard Golf experience. The bar takes centre stage for an outing that focuses on the fun side of the experience rather than your golf skills – not that they won’t be put to the test on either of two, nine-hole courses. Choose from an pacific island adventure-styled course, or a neon rave one. We tried the pacific island one called ‘Pablo: Polluted Paradise’ as when armed with a can of Hooch (there are cocktails, wines, prosecco and craft beers on offer – but we went for the nostalgia high instead) it seemed prudent to avoid the early 2000s vibe of ‘Frieda: In Da Club’ no matter how much we were drawn to the manic UV spattered holes therein. Junkyard Golf is Tardis-like in its utilisation of space, with holes offering varying difficulties and a cap of six shots per hole keep things moving at a gentlemanly pace. It doesn’t seem to matter who wins either (it definitely wasn’t me) as Junkyard Golf is very much about the experience. Peppered with settings that look straight out of Kong: Skull Island and bizarre encounters with giant bears, you’ll want to do it all over again – or jump straight into the course you missed out on. Any hunger that comes from not really exerting yourself can be sated at Eat New York Street Diner who provide the best salt beef bagels this side of the Atlantic.
