A celebration of Rory Gallagher at Band On The Wall

Gerry McAvoy’s Band of Friends – A Celebration of Rory Gallagher is a far cry from your average tribute act. McAvoy played bass for 20 years (1971-1991) with the Irish guitar legend Rory Gallagher, including tours in the 1970s across their troubled homeland and Europe, while drummer Ted McKenna had a four-year stint  in Gallagher’s Celtic rock/blues band. For this tour, Dutchman Marcel Scherpenzeel is entrusted with the Rory role. He’s a hard act to follow; the shy Donegal-born maestro rose to fame fronting Taste in the 1960s before forming his own band and snubbing approaches from Deep Purple and the Rolling Stones (Ronnie Wood got the gig). He died in 1995, aged just 47, after liver transplant complications.
