Just a tram ride from the city this year’s Rochdale Literature and ideas festival brings the best in drama, comedy, music, theatre, poetry, visual arts and of course literature to the South Pennine town. Highlights at this year’s festival include Terry Waite and his poetry and musings on the five years he spent as a hostage in Beirut, Jane Austen comedy ‘Thrills and Quills’ from award winning theatre company LipService and a Q&A with comedian Jenny Eclair. There are children’s events throughout with puppet shows and a tie in with Manchester Science Festival and Chester Zoo putting on workshops at Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre. Spanning a wide variety of tastes and subjects there’s something for everyone across the town for the six day festival.
