Described by curator (and Manchester Wire contributor) Laura Mansfield as a ‘curatorial project’, Triptych’s physical display has been designed with work by Lindsey Bull, Madeline Hall and Aliyah Hussain in mind. Each artist’s practice explores ideas of ritual and geometric symbolism while the structure, designed by Mansfield to host the work, seeks to reflect these themes as well as commenting on the current trend for pop-up or temporary exhibition spaces. Bull often employs watercolour in her work, referencing religious imagery and the depiction of motion documented by artists such as Francis Bacon. Recently graduated but with a show at the Tate Modern already on her CV, Hall uses collage as well as found, painted and drawn elements to explore notions of fragility, while Hussain’s vibrant work points towards a new symbolic language built from photographic images and overlaying techniques (see image). Located in Piccadilly Place, a new office complex near Piccadilly Station, the show explores performance of viewing art works through the creation of a bespoke environment as well as offering the chance to get to know three of the region’s most promising artists in a rare group show.
