First up on our free things to do in Manchester list this week is this screening at the Green Fish Resource Centre on Oldham Street. The self-proclaimed ‘ethical property company’ are hosting a screening of the 2015 French documentary Demain (which translates as ‘tomorrow’) on Tuesday evening. Demain takes an unusually optimistic look at some of the steps being taken globally to hold back climate change, from solar farms to organic farming. The screening starts promptly at 6.30pm and refreshments will be available on the night.

Making Waves at Trof
Trof’s regular free night of cosy, acoustic music boasts some of the best artists in the city, served up in the venue’s intimate upstairs bar with a programme of unplugged folk, anti-folk and everything in-between. For this first instalment of 2018, they’ve booked bluesy singer-songwriter Jon Kenzie, as well as Rory Charles and The Slow Approach. There’s also the promise of cake as the gig lands on host Tanah Stansfield’s birthday.

Last Chance to See Adam Menzies at Electrik
This Thursday is your last chance to catch artist Adam Menzies’ free exhibition of illustrations at Chorlton’s Electrik bar. Bradford-based Adam’s funny, colourful drawings pull in everything from football hooligans to The Smurfs. Check out our full preview for more details.

Searching the Stores at People’s History Museum
The People’s History Museum is staying open late this Thursday, as part of their Radical Lates series, for a special exhibition of caricatures and cartoons from their vast archives. Their Savage Ink exhibition – a fine collection of political cartoons from the 18th Century through to present day – has been running since September, but this Thursday is your sole opportunity to see the vast materials that didn’t make it into the full run. There’s also an opportunity to book a tour slot for the Savage Ink exhibition, getting the best insight into the exhibition from the its curators.
