Flim Nite Does Jurassic Park at 3MT
For our first pick of free things to do in Manchester this week, we have have Flim Nite. It’s a regular comedy and spoken word night at Affleck’s Palace micro-theatre 3MT, which harnesses the talents of local performers to retell and reinterpret a film, which on this occasion is Spielberg’s 1993 dino-classic Jurassic Park. They’ve got an excellent lineup as well, with contributions from comedian Jayne Edwards, clown Julie Burrow, as well as self-identified ‘I.T. Rock ‘n’ Roll’ stars Foxdog Studios. It’s technically free to attend, but there’s a suggested £3 donation on the door.

Beyond Babel Film Festival at City Centre
This week, MMU’s Department of Humanities, Linguistics and Social Sciences present their annual Beyond Babel Film Festival, which features a number of free screenings. Beyond Babel is a multilingual film festival, which means that it celebrates not just foreign-language films, but films that transcend language barriers. On Tuesday night, you can catch French-Algerian fish out of water drama Né Quelque Part at 70 Oxford Street. Instituto Cervantes presents Argentinian film El Futuro Perfecto on Wednesday night, and on Thursday you can see a screening of English Vinglish, followed by a Q&A at MMU’s Geoffrey Manton Building.

Breathe Exhibition Launch at Manchester Craft & Design Centre
The Manchester Craft & Design Centre in the Northern Quarter launches its latest exhibition this Thursday. Breathe is an exhibition showcasing digitally-sculpted glassware, and they’re kicking things off with a launch party, complete with drinks and tunes courtesy of Living Room Dance Club’s DJ Ailsa McLaggan. Vonnegut Collective and Animikii Theatre (pictured) at The Whitworth
Also on Thursday night, you can catch this one-off performance as part of The Whitworth’s Thursday Lates series. Vonnegut Collective are a local chamber ensemble founded by trumpeter Gary Farr and violinist Gemma Bass, whose stated aim is to make classical music relevant and accessible to all. Here they’re perfoming with physical theatre performance group Animikii Theatre, alongside composition students from Manchester University, where individual compositions will contribute to a larger improvised piece. The performance will be followed up by a discussion.
