New theatre: The Wardrobe Ensemble bring Education, Education, Education to The Lowry

Award-winning Bristol-based theatre artists The Wardrobe Ensemble want you to go back to school – in the Blairite era of Cool Britannia, when things can (according to New Labour) only get better. With the country in special measures, they can’t get much worse – or can they? Political satire Education, Education, Education, critically acclaimed for its Edinburgh run, gives us detention in 1997, exploring what gets taught in classrooms and why, and asking where responsibility actually lies – with Miss Belltop-Doyle, who can’t control her year 10s, with Mr Pashley and a confiscated Tamagotchi, with language assistant Tobias, or with Miss Turner, just hoping for the best? Inventive and irreverent, chaotic and comedic, Education, Education, Education harks back to the year Princess Diana was killed, Harry Potter was launched and the Spice Girls ruled the world – perfect for a bit of nostalgia; equally, an interesting mirror to education in the age of austerity.
