Whiplash Tap Takeover and Holy Crab at Café Beermoth
For our first pick of free things to do in Manchester this weekend, we’ve got this free tap takeover hosted by the craft beer aficionados at Café Beermoth. Irish brewers Whiplash set up shop less than two years ago, but they’ve already made a name for themselves and will be bringing over a boatload of kegs for you to sample, along with bottled beers with cool labels that look like every album you bought in the noughties (see Gravity’s Rainbow DIPA, pictured). Providing catering on the evening are Holy Crab, who make fresh, fun, seasonal seafood snacks, including their famed crab burgers.
Fri 16 Mar, Café Beermoth, Brown Street, Manchester, M2 1DA. 5pm – 12.30am, www.facebook.com

Levy Market’s 5th Birthday
Local favourite Levy Market celebrates its fifth birthday this weekend, so this Friday they’re hosting a special artisan night market. For this evening, they’ve specifically picked out some of the stall holders that worked with them all those years ago – so expect stalls from market veterans such as Little Italy Kitchen and hot dog connoisseurs Diamond Dogs. Also slated for an appearance are Wrapscallion burritos, Polish street food vendors Olo Kitchen, and Malaysian kitchen Nasi Lemak, amongst over 20 other stalls. As well as food, you can also find out more about local community projects such as Levenshulme Youth Project and Friends of Levenshulme Station.
Fri 16 Mar, Levy Market, Stockport Rd, Manchester, M19 3PJ. 5pm – 9pm, www.levymarket.com

Manchester Hill Workshop at Central Library
The Battle of Manchester Hill was a particularly bloody episode of the First World War, but the sacrifices made on 21st March 1918 have largely been forgotten from the wider history of the conflict. This Saturday, Manchester Histories are inviting you to commemorate the centenary of the battle and learn the stories of those who fought, using materials from Central Library’s archives. The drop in sessions will be running from 10am, where you will be sent deep into the archives to learn more about Manchester Hill and also create artwork to be assembled by digital artist Bec Smith and presented in full on 13th April.
Sat 17 Mar, Manchester Central Library, St Peter’s Square, Manchester, M2 5PD. 10am – 4pm, www.eventbrite.co.uk

Cinderella: A Museum Adventure at IWM North
Coinciding with The Lowry’s new dance production of Cinderella, the neighbouring IWM North will be hosting a day of fun, family-friendly activities themed around dance and this classic fairytale. There will be recitals from dance company New Adventures at 10.45am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm, with object-handling sessions in the museum’s exhibitions space. There will also be some free dance workshops on the day, but at the time of writing these are all booked up.
