Swinging our way for a short run at the Lowry in early May, is a new take on the children’s classic ‘The Jungle Book’. Based on Rudyard Kipling’s short stories, the show tells the story of Mowgli, a ‘man cub’, who was raised by wolves in India. With the help of his friends Balloo the bear and Bagheera the panther, he learns the law of the jungle, and tries to outwit the evil tiger Shere Khan. This adaptation goes back to the original source material, with a script from the Olivier Award-winner Jessica Swale. So, don’t expect any songs from the classic Disney film. However, there will be new music, which will be performed live on stage. The tunes were conceived by Joe Stilgoe, the singer-songwriter and son of the famous Richard. The show is produced by the team behind Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Running Wild’, an acclaimed production with a similar theme. It is suitable for ages six and above.
