Not to be missed, the world premiere of Seven Inch sees local legend Fat Roland as he’s never been seen before: on his own in a record store and lonely except for the trademark illustrations he scribbles incessantly. The one-man show was created as part of The Lowry’s artist development programme and kicks off the Week 53 Festival 2018 – and it’s already proving popular, with two extra dates added. Described as a “hilarious and touching spoken word comedy performance”, Seven Inch channels the festival’s coming of age theme by charting the advent and growth of digital music (in the real world, Fat Roland writes for Electronic Sound magazine). In the on-stage world, Fat Roland is celebrating his 45th birthday alone in the record shop where he works but no one ever visits – until now. As he makes his own entertainment amid the cobwebbed racks and fading album covers, someone dares to venture inside…
