The second annual Levenshulme Fringe Festival has just begun and it continues until mid-July. The festival hub is the area’s old library, which has been refurbished into a creative space. A host of events are upcoming including theatre shows, music, and creative workshops. There are also things going on in the wider Levy area, and even one pop-up event in Fallowfield. Standouts from the programme include Owl and the Coconut events, which mix art and mindfulness. There are several sessions planned, and newcomers to mindfulness are welcome. Prison Game is a dramatic, one-man physical theatre performance which focuses on how incarceration can define a man. Developed using accounts of real life experiences, this mainly biographical story deals with the effects of institutionalisation on the psyche. Another one-person show, albeit with a very different target audience, is Just Soph. This is a new retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tales using performance, puppetry, and original music.
