Ends Sunday: Can’t Do Right… by Phil Collins at HOME Manchester

A major exhibition from Turner-nominated artist Phil Collins is coming to HOME from July. Can’t Do Right for Doing Wrong puts politics front and centre and invites audiences to engage with the voices of the homeless. It features three large-scale installations which use both digital and analogue technologies. My heart’s in my hand…  is a project developed using anonymised recordings of phone calls from a homeless shelter in Cologne. The recordings were sent to a number of musicians, including Scritti Politti and David Sylvian, who used them as the starting point for original music. The songs are presented here as seven-inch records in specially-designed listening booths. Ceremony is a multi-faceted project that explores the work and legacy of Friedrich Engels. Delete Beach is an anime which tells the story of a schoolgirl who joins a resistance group in a future society in which carbon-based energy is outlawed. There is an exhibition preview and panel discussion from 5pm on Friday 6 July, with a club night to follow, from 11pm at the White Hotel.
