Free things to do: Journeys International Festival full programme announced

Journeys International Festival celebrate the creative talent of refugee and asylum seeker artists. The 11-day event has a varied programme of family-friendly exhibitions (read our top 10 family events here), workshops, screenings, and musical performances at venues throughout the city. Just a few of the standouts are listed here. Journeys Live is a free day of entertainment at Cathedral Gardens, featuring emerging and established music artists. Visitors can dance along to the sounds of Rumba, Soukous, Sawa Blues, and Township Jazz. The Invisibles Journey is a special exhibition at Longsight and North City Libraries, presenting artworks created by refugees who passed through Calais. For adults, there is the UK premiere of the film ‘Soufra‘ at HOME. This documentary centres on the social entrepreneur Mariam Shaar, who was raised in a refugee camp near Beirut. Along with a group of other women, she received a micro-loan and launched the first refugee food truck.
