The former Cornerhouse building is still being put to good use, and is hosting this free talk coming up in March. The subject is Hauntology – a way of thinking about our world as being ghosted by unresolved pasts and unrealised futures. First defined by the postmodern philosopher Jacques Derrida, the idea was expounded on by the writer Mark Fisher, who argued that hauntology was born again by modern music artists. This discussion will explore the definition and continuing relevance of the subject. The panel is made up of local artists and academics in fields such as literature and urban design. This event is brought to you by HAUNT Manchester, MMU’s network of folks who engage with all things Gothic, weird and wonderful. The night is a precursor to the Not Quite Light Festival, which is in the days following this event. Taking place at dawn and dusk, the festival explores themes of transition and regeneration.
