Multinational band UGLY come to Northern Quarter jazz cellar Matt & Phred’s this Friday for a special early-evening gig. UGLY is a London-based electronica two-piece consisting of Canadian singer Ella Jean and Australian producer Rob Major that draws from multiple genres including hip-hop, soul and art rock. Earlycomers can also take advantage of the venue’s generous happy hour deals until 7pm.

This Changes Everything Screening at Methodist Central Hall
The Methodist Central Hall on Oldham Street hosts this climate change film screening on Saturday afternoon. This Changes Everything is a documentary narrated by author and activist Naomi Klein, and based on her book of the same name. The film looks at the efforts of groups across the world pushing back against capital’s corrosive effects on the climate. The screening is accompanied with vegan refreshments, and is plastic-free event – so bring your own cup if you want a drink.

And This Is Free Screening at The Tallyrand
Another screening event this Sunday: Levenshulme pub The Tallyrand hosts a screening of And This Is Free, a 1964 documentary about Chicago’s Maxwell Street market. The market, which was shut down in 1994, was not just a place of commerce, but an important part in the history of blues music, providing a street outlet for some fo the mid-century’s greatest talents .This screening is followed by a free performance from a more local blues talent: Honeyfeet guitarist and harmonica virtuoso Rik Warren.
