Community Arts North West and HOME team up this month to bring us Horizons Festival, a week-long series of events uniting communities from across the city as part of Refugee Week 2019. The exciting programme of events will span theatre, film, art, performance, workshops and discussion panels, showcasing the best in contemporary creativity from across the globe, whilst raising awareness and challenging stereotypes in the process. Beginning on Sat 15 June, HOME will be transformed into a Sanctuary Souk global market full of free workshops and participatory arts activities throughout the afternoon. Events across the week include a screening of thought-provoking documentary The Echo of Pain of The Many, dance theatre piece Sir Pe Talwar, a performance from the Hamdel Ensemble led by acclaimed musician and composer Seyed Ali Jaberi, a free exhibition tour from Sana Yazigi, co-curator of the Creative Memory of the Syrian Revolution exhibition, and much more. The festival concludes on Fri 21 with Summer Solstice Global Rave, taking over Theatre 2 with a 2-hour club night hosted by DJ Irfan Rainy, Blanchard de Plaizir and Magic Shamen. Attendees can also look forward to a series of free events every night in the bar, along with workshops ranging from African singing and percussion to circus skills. A full list of events is available here.
