There’s quite the glut of openings coming to Manchester in the coming months (and in one case years), as Black Sheep Coffee and Northern Soul both announce their third Manchester venture, whilst Vertigo announce a second down near HOME. Other capitalised news sees NOMA breathing new life into New Century Hall, and Bundobust have a secret new location for their second Manchester site and brewery.
It wasn’t too long ago that Manchester city centre could boast only Arndale Food Court as its food hall but now it has Mackie Mayor, Corn Exchange, and they’re set to be joined by another one as the NOMA project continues to add new projects around the Co-Op building. New Century Hall has been empty for a while and is due to burst back into life as a food hall, music venue, and a purpose built college. With work hopeful to start by the end of this year the grade two listed building should be back up and running within a couple of years. Opening TBC.
The Northern Quarter’s Turtle Bay has gone big on breakfast as it aims to bring a bit of Caribbean sunshine to Oldham Street mornings. As well as options such as curry goat hash, morning diners can get a shot of rum in their porridge or some curried chickpeas for the veggies amongst you. As well as the brunch from 10am, the restaurant has also launched a lunch offer where between 12-3pm diners can get a burger or roti plus a side or drink for £10.
Another empty space that is set to get a new lease of life, the old Simple space on Tib Street is to become the new home of Northern Soul. Adding to their sites on Piccadilly Approach and the market on Church Street, the third site for the grilled cheese makers will be more of a restaurant with space for 70 covers and the ability to book a table. Due to open next month, expect the usual comfort classics such as mac ‘n’ cheese just in time for Autumn. Opens Sep.
Popular vegetarian Indian street food purveyors Bundobust are set to capitalise on their success in Manchester by opening a second site somewhere in the city. For now details are scarce as the Leeds based restaurateurs hold the details close to their chest so the exact location is unknown. What is known is that it will house a brewery alongside the restaurant and will have space for 120-140 covers when it opens at the beginning of next year.
Vertigo, the plant based eatery that has been a hit on Cross Street, is set to move onto First Street as they open up opposite HOME in a new space. The restaurant will be open from breakfast until 9pm Mon-Sat and 8pm on Sunday with space for 40 guests inside and a further 20 outside for when the sun hits the area. As well as the juice bar and healthy meals, Vertigo also offer some less healthy but equally delicious natural wines for those less keen on a smoothie. Opens Aug.
Following a successful debut year last year, Albert Hall is set to welcome their Oktoberfest event back for another year this September. Hosted on 20th and 21st, the event will see local breweries take on the best Munich has to offer as Manchester based beer makers such as Blackjack show off their special brews alongside German pilsner experts Paulaner amongst others. The three sessions hosted throughout the weekend will feature traditional oompah music as well as plenty of sausages alongside the beer. Tickets are £10 and booking early is recommended. Deansgate is set to host the third Manchester venue for Black Sheep Coffee. The old Patisserie Valerie site hasn’t stayed empty for long and will welcome the independent coffee chain when it opens on Aug 16. Following their openings in Piccadilly Place and Spring Gardens, the new venue will follow the same idea as a space for coffee during the day but also a place for drinks after work in the evening with their usual blend of dark and neon lighting.
