Head to the People’s History Museum on Sunday and you’ll find a celebration marking the closing months of this year’s Peterloo 2019 celebration. Free refreshments will be on hand while you peruse a selection of images and materials from the wide-ranging events that have taken place over the past few months marking this key moment in Manchester’s history. The event also doubles up as the launch party for a selection of books on the topic from authors Nick Mansfield, Robert Poole and Alison Morgan, with each providing a brief presentation and selling signed copies of their work. Rounding out the day will be Lancaster’s Gladly Solemn Sound choir who will be on hand to perform a selection of Peterloo songs.
New students joining our city this year get an exclusive invite down to First Street’s arts, cinema and theatre space HOME this weekend to find out exactly what they have to offer. This day long event provides a taster of the venue’s all-inclusive ethos and boasts a free breakfast, opportunities fair (including details of various HOME-ran courses and initiatives) and free film screening of Brad Pitt’s latest Ad Astra. Exclusive tours of David Lynch’s exhibition My Head is Disconnected and the backstage areas of the venue’s theatre space will also be on offer.
The final weekend in September also marks your last chance to see HOME’s extensive David Lynch exhibition My Head is Disconnected – which finally comes to a close on Sunday. Scattered with themes of isolation, dystopia and a number of strange figures, this eerie and atmospheric collection of work is an absolute must-see for any fan of the Director’s equally resonant film and television output. Drop by, wander through the space and take one last look at over 60 pieces of Lynch’s memorable work – before it’s gone for good.
